We work to get every fact right, and when we don't, we say so.
How to tell us
- Use the "Report an error" button at the bottom of any story, or
- write to editor@thewinchendoncourier.com with the story's address and what is wrong.
An editor reads every report.
What we do
- A factual error is corrected in the story, and a note at the top of the story says what was corrected and when. We don't quietly change facts.
- A misheard or misattributed quote is corrected against the recording, and noted the same way.
- A wrong name on a voice is fixed in the story and in the system that recognizes voices, so it is not repeated.
- A typo or a broken link is fixed without a note.
- An error in the printed edition is corrected online and noted in the next printed edition.
- The Spanish, Portuguese and French editions are translated again from the corrected English.
Removing a story
We don't unpublish stories because they are unflattering. We do update them when there is news — a charge dropped, a decision reversed — and we consider requests about serious harm case by case. Write to editor@thewinchendoncourier.com.
